Asbestos Awareness Course
Target Audience:
This course is targeted at all those likely to be involved with Asbestos, either in a property management sense or for those trades likely to work directly or indirectly with materials that could be Asbestos.
The Objectives / Learning Outcome:
On successful completion of the course candidates should be able to:
- Understand what Asbestos is.
- Understand where is it likely to be found
- Understand what to do when you find it
- Understand what the law says.
Course Details:
There is a maximum of 12 places available.
Validation of Certification: 2 years.
Course Duration: 3 hours.
Content:
- Health effects
- Asbestos type’s, risk and properties
- Emergency procedures to deal with asbestos
- Employers and Employees legal responsibilities
- Risk Assessment
- Principles of Control
- The type’s uses and risks of ACM’s in buildings and other areas
- How Asbestos is to be removed.
Assessment:
There is a short multi-choice paper.
Important:
Asbestos is widely accepted as one of the biggest killers in the UK. It is now recognised that as many as 18 million UK workers are at risk of contact with Asbestos fibres.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 now include the duty that employers shall provide appropriate training for all workers who are likely to be exposed to asbestos.
This course is aimed at the construction industry and maintenance contractors, I.e. Plumbers, carpenters, electricians, roofers, scaffolders and other ancillary workers who could come into contact with asbestos.
