HSE Annual Basic First Aid Skills Update

Target Audience:
All staff that hold some form of current first aid certificate; so as to update current resuscitation knowledge to avoid skill decay.

Course Content:
The course will include dealing with unconscious casualties, dealing with obstructions, respiratory and circulatory arrest. Participants will have the opportunity to practice basic life support and to use resuscitation equipment.

Course Details:
There is a maximum of 12 places available.
Validation of Certification: 1 year.
Course Duration: 3 hours.

Content:
Candidates should demonstrate their competence to:

  • assess the situation in an emergency
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock

Note:
A casualty requiring resuscitation is the single most challenging situation to face a first aider.
The initial resuscitation of causality is frequently performed by staff member with the least experience.
There is no substitute for practical, hands – on experience and Action Training stresses this aspect.
There is however a need for first aiders to have information that is up to date and fresh. This training course provides clear & concise information which is user friendly.

Important:
The HSE strongly recommends that first aiders undertake annual refresher training within any three year certification period of FAW or EFAW.

It is not mandatory or a legal requirement to provide this training. This course has specific information for the treatment of Adults who suddenly collapse.
